MEXICO CITY PRETRIAL SERVICES
After the publication of our Mexico City Report, the Mexico City Superior Court of Justice for Juveniles invited us to collaborate on implementing the report’s recommendations. The primary recommendation is to create a Pretrial Services Unit within the court.
The Pretrial Services Unit will conduct an investigation with every juvenile upon arrest and based on established methodology, make a recommendation to the court as to the least-restrictive pretrial measures. If the court grants pretrial release, the Pretrial Services Unit will then be tasked with supervising the juveniles on release until the completion of the trial.
We are working in collaboration with the Instituto de Justicia Procesal Penal, a Mexican organization that specializes in implementing pretrial services. Work begins in June 2014.
